CoA 4.1 Target populations of environment analysis; Prescribe the set of target locations and future production environments WCA: One legume crop and One cereal crop )-(CGIAR, IKCs, Innovation labs, NARS, SROs, Private sector) Phenotyping:   Trait-based in the field and under and high precision. Traits to be refined after validation with partners Leverage ongoing partner and CRP legacy work (input and output traits)-(CGIAR, IKCs, Innovation labs)

Breeding activities Leverage ongoing efforts legacy work (crop-wise) (CGIAR, IKCs, NARS, AATF, Innovation labs) Validate product concept notes by partners (CGIAR, IKCs, Innovation labs NARS, Private sector- Seed Co and others, AATF) Leverage and or expand MET supported by CoA 1 ( may be post year 1) (CGIAR, IKCs, NARS, Private sector- Seed Co and others). Capacity strengthening Leverage HRD programmes (WACCI, RUFORUM, Innovation labs) Map deployed breeders for engagement in FP4 (AGRA, AATF) Program operations- Performance review, planning and data management (CGIAR + Private sector.. Seed CO, AATF)

Product concept notes Legacy material….Are they aligned to PCN? Validate trait portfolio with partners Current clusters under which various traits fall Yield and resilience enhancing traits; Resource-use efficient and crop architecture traits, that reduce agronomy costs and drudgery; User preferences for nutritional quality, post-harvest handling and value addition; and Enhance role of GLDC crops as sources of feed/stover/forage for livestock in agri-food system.

Activate and or leverage crop networks for testing. (NARS, SROs, Private sector- Seed Co and others) Partnership engineering for testing, release and commercialization Consider leverage and or reactivation of crop networks. Stakeholders include SROs NARS Private sector

Study current seed systems to inform priorities, scheduling and partnership profiles CORAF- leverage West African Agricultural Transformation Project (WAATP) ASARECA-leverage East Central Africa Agriculture Transformation Project (ECAATP). AGRA- Seed Co- ESA and WCA Africa operations others Some of key issues Drivers of dysfunctionality Best practices Demand side-issues, awareness, access.
