4. “A comfort I can use to ease my mind, I rely on my imagination, and I dream of an imaginary time…everybody has a dream”—Billy Joel. All people have hopes and dreams that they rely on to make it through each day. In John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, many characters also have lofty dreams that they are attempting to fulfill. Lennie Smalls is one character whose unique dream of owning a ranch plays a significant role in his life. Lennie’s dream to live with George on the ranch and tend the rabbits is important to him because it helps him control his behavior at the beginning of the novel, and it gives him something to look forward to in the future.
