1 Persuasion Vocabulary

2 Purpose (NOUN) the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

3 Persuasion (NOUN) being persuaded to do or believe something.

4 Audience (NOUN) viewers or listeners at a public event, such as a play, movie

5 Fact (NOUN) the quality of being actual

6 Opinion (NOUN) a view or judgment formed about something

7 Hook (NOUN) First sentence of an essay or work. It grabs the reader’s attention.

8 Thesis (NOUN) Last sentence of the introduction. It tells what the essay will be about.

9 Clinching statement (NOUN)
Last sentence of the conclusion/essay. Leaves the reader thinking.

10 Counter argument (NOUN)
To argue against the other side

11 Transitions (NOUN) Words used to connect ideas, paragraphs, sentences, etc.

12 Manipulate (VERB) To handle or control

13 Elicit (VERB) Get a response from someone

14 Appeal (VERB) make a serious or urgent request

15 Criticize (VERB) point out the faults in someone

16 Emphasize (VERB) give special importance

17 Illustrate (VERB) explain or make (something) clear by using examples, charts, pictures

18 Reinforce (VERB) To strengthen

19 Cliché (NOUN) phrase or opinion that is overused

20 Connotation (NOUN) feeling that a word brings out

21 Anecdote (NOUN) a short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person.

22 Rebuttal (NOUN) When two people debate, one of them makes an argument, and the other follows with a rebuttal, which, plainly put, is the "no, you're wrong and this is why"
