What is the TEACH:RE Subject Knowledge course?

What is the Teach RE Course? The course is a distance learning opportunity which aims to build confidence in teaching RE in all phases of education, and in all settings i.e. primary, special, 6th Form, secondary, and in all school types i.e. academies, free schools, faith schools The course is recognised by many ITT providers as one way of supporting your subject knowledge to teach RE in schools. Summary of the Modules Modules 2 and 3 are essay based and allow you to focus deeply on one or two aspects of religion and belief Module 4 involves creating a presentation for your peers e.g. fellow PGCE or school direct trainees. Module one is compulsory. Modules 2-7 are open to everyone who wants to complete the course We encourage most ITT students to complete Module 2 ( an essay) and then one other module of their choice. (Module 8 is only open to serving teachers and is aimed at those leading the subject in a school or academy)

How will the TEACH:RE Course benefit me?
This course was a steep learning curve for me, it highlighted my huge gap of knowledge that I had for Islam & Buddhism. I thoroughly enjoyed this research, as ‘becoming the student’ myself enabled me to explore these faiths in a detail I have never done before (Catherine) Why do the TeachRE course? Considering RE as a career- can secure an understanding of the subject, gives basic understanding of pedagogy, shows you where to find information and introduces you to social media and forums about RE, recognised by many universities and other ITT providers as an excellent introduction to initial teacher training ( some providers require students to complete TeachRE as a condition of place) Read more about the impact of TEACH:RE on the website. Supports interviews Know where to go for help Supports Teacher Standards Certificate of completion Builds your confidence Focuses on teaching Looks good on an application Subject Knowledge Develop a rationale Links you to forums and social media

I’m interested…how much time will I need to commit?
There are three routes through the course: Standard ( one term per module) Fast Track ( one month per module) Super Fast Track ( one week per module) Each Module takes between hours to complete. The course is flexible, we just ask trainees to commit to a realistic timescale, that works for them. The most popular one is ‘Fast track’ as this means that you can do the course over a term. At the moment the Teach RE Complete Course costs £150.

Further opportunities with Culham St Gabriel’s
Considering a Masters with an RE pathway? Have you considered the 3forRE programme offered through Culham St Gabriel’s? s Teaching Religious Education (RE) in a primary, secondary or special school in the UK? Looking for affordable, accredited professional development? 3forRE is a unique scheme based on a three-way partnership between you, your school and Culham St Gabriel’s Trust. This scheme offers you an opportunity to take Masters-level professional development at a fraction of the normal cost. What’s the offer? Culham St Gabriel’s will pay 60% of your fees for Masters programmes that are part of the 3forRE Scheme. Do I have to be a qualified specialist RE teacher? No. You need to be teaching RE in a primary, secondary or special school in the UK, and you need to be a qualified, serving teacher, Teaching Assistant or HLTA. How could this benefit me? We want to help anyone who is teaching RE to do it better. Masters level courses that are relevant to classroom RE can provide stimulating, informed and critical interventions to help you raise standards. They can have a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning, on the challenge for pupils and on their progress and understanding. They provide you with critical scholarly wisdom and practical help. They put you in touch with other practitioners of RE and prepare you for leadership roles. Am I eligible for 3forRE in ? You will be eligible for the 3forRE Scheme if you are: - Employed as a qualified teacher, teaching assistant or HLTA in a school in the UK; - Intending to take a Masters-level Certificate, Diploma or full MA programme, that relates directly to the teaching of RE in your classroom and school, in one of the universities that are members of the 3forRE Scheme; - Able to demonstrate that your accredited study will directly lead to development, innovation and improvement in RE teaching in your school or consortium; - Supported by your employing school paying at least 10% of the fees.
