What does the Occupational Health Office do for federal technicians?
Hearing Conservation Vision Protection Respiratory Protection Hazard Communication Industrial Hygiene Medical Surveillance OWCP/Case Management Ergonomics Training/Education Counseling Reproductive Surveillance Workplace Evaluations Health Promotion/Wellness Program Evaluation Blood-borne Pathogens Budget/Resource Management Record Keeping Personal Protective Equipment OSHA/Regulatory Compliance Confined Space Design Review CPR/AED training And more Violence in the Workplace; Illness/Absence Monitoring; Epidemiology; Hazard Abatement; Hazard Assessment Hearing Conservation - preserve the hearing of all our soldiers. Big part is education, when, where, how, what type of hearing protection. Units requests fitting of hearing protection. Recruiting number of individuals who I retest or test because of hearing loss. Respiratory Protection Program - Make sure our soldiers do not have a false sense of security. Corrosive material - gas mask Class 2 kit? Hazard Communication Program - Will talk more about Medical Surveillance - largest program element, most time consuming and costly. Interfaces with all other programs. On the m-day side soldiers working with radioactive commodities like MC1 need have baseline and period screening. OWCP/Case Management - LOD - Medical questions on different diagnosis. Unfortunately, if a soldier is injured we can not put them on light duty after AT. Ergonomics - new program mandated January 98 - Chapter in WIARNG Fitting the workplace to the individual - not just the office setting PPE - knowing what, when how and where PPE should be worn. Especially Ear Plugs MACU

Focus: early detection of occupational diseases or illnesses that may be associated with work tasks or workplace exposures of a physical, chemical, biological, or radiological nature. Types of surveillance: Baseline, Job transfer, Annual, Termination or Retirement. FY19 annual exams and screenings will be conducted by a mobile health service contractor. Note: The supervisor and the employee will be contacted by a 3rd party vendor, QTC Management for medical exam scheduling.

Respiratory Protection
Review Job Duties & evaluate NEED for Respirator Placement/Issue: Based on Industrial Hygiene (IH) surveys + potential health hazard. Discontinue use if not warranted & remove from Medical Surveillance Program. Respirator fit testing is managed by the Occupational Health Office (OHO) Respirators are not provided by the OHO.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) maintains overall program management for AEDs in Facilities and Shops . Accountability & maintenance records Training Deputy State Surgeon maintains program management for AEDs in armories/support M-Day and AGR personnel. This also applies to BLS training for M-Day and AGR personnel. AEDs are now considered facility/shop pieces of equipment. Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) training is provided by the OHN.

What Occupational Health Does Not Do
Do Not: Purchase first aid or blood borne pathogen kits or supplies Do Not: Purchase Personal Protective Equipment PPE (respirators, prescription safety glasses, etc…) Do Not: Purchase AED pads or batteries Do Not: Purchase ergonomic equipment (stand up desks, keyboards, mobility ball/chair) Do Not: Provide direct support to AGR, M-Day or State employees The Occupational Health Nurse will collaborate with other offices to ensure health hazard(s) identification is shared to assist with mitigation efforts.
