Goodbye Oglethorpe In 1743 James Oglethorpe returned to England and never set foot in Georgia again. The colonists of Georgia pushed for fewer restrictions than those demanded by Oglethorpe. Restrictions on land ownership, inheritance, and slavery were dropped by In 1752 the trustees of Georgia gave control of Georgia back to the direct control of the British government and the king.

Proprietary vs. Royal Colony
Proprietary- governed by a board of trustees After Oglethorpe’s exit many colonists left for England. Export business suffered due to less production. Royal- directly governed by the king Two years passed until transition complete. Some colonists returned.
