Prior to the 1920’s job interviews were typically unnecessary. Jobs were typically acquired through apprenticeships In the 1920’s Thomas Edison conducted the first job interview

Often a mandatory part of the hiring process Provides the applicant an opportunity to stand out Helps employers determine the best candidate for the position
