Introduction A bit about me... A bit about you...
Guidelines for the instructor This part will include an initial and informal introduction of the instructor and lecturers. The objective is to become familiar with the lecturers’ conceptions, to mutually coordinate expectations, as well as getting to know the background and context of explanatory videos production. Guiding questions can also be used: Have you produced explanatory videos? Did you take a course in which video clips were used?
3
About the Workshop In this workshop we will train you (talented, creative and resourceful lecturers) to be independent producers of simple explanatory videos. The explanatory videos are suitable for varied types of courses, such as: Hybrid teaching, Flipped classroom, Distance learning, etc. Guidelines for the instructor In this stage, we will not go into the various models (hybrid teaching, flipped classroom and distance learning. Further into the meeting, we will say a few words about these models. Recommendation for live demonstration: We recommend recording narration only for this slide (using the PowerPoint recording tool) and presenting it with the recording. The recording will be useful in raising interest and would be a first example of the benefit of recording.

Sensation & Perception Crash Course Psychology #5
Explanatory Videos in “Complex” Production * The type we will not produce during the workshop Sensation & Perception Crash Course Psychology #5 21st Century Challenges IDC Guidelines for the instructor The objective is to coordinate expectations and clarify to the lecturers the workshop's range of operation. The main message here is that it would be impossible to independently produce video clips that require professionals such as a cameraman, editor, etc. and so, we will focus on simple screen based explanatory video clips. * It is recommended not to dwell upon this slide. One example would be sufficient.
6
The Workshop's Main Idea
If you can "tell a story" and use PowerPoint, you can become your own producer. Guidelines for the instructor The purpose of the slide is to reinforce the main message: This is a simple process that any lecturer can learn.

Coordination of Expectations
Our expectations What are your expectations? Passive learning is Out Active learning is In Cooperative and shared learning "the freedom to make mistakes" (to experience) Guidelines for the instructor In this slide we will define the expectations from the meeting between the instructor and the lecturers participating in the workshop: "The freedom to make mistakes” principle: we will walk together in uncharted land that will require you, the workshop participants, to implement recommendations or rules regarding contents taken from one of the courses you teach and then record yourselves teaching. In order that the workshop succeed and to empower you with the capability to produce explanatory videos, you should be willing to try and err, record yourselves even if at first it seems unnatural, and even if you do not like the sound of your voice in the recording and find it artificial. Not only are you allowed to make mistakes... you are even advised to do so! * Fail = First attempt in learning. Cooperative and sharing learning: we find a lot of value in cooperative learning where students contribute and share their experience. Furthermore, I will add that in order to generate a cooperative environment, it is also important to make an effort to create a group atmosphere of minimal criticism. Passive learning Out and active learning In: This workshop is as practical as it is theoretical. This will not be a "lecture" where I talk and you sit quietly listening. The workshop will include tasks that will help you apply the theory to the content of your course. For the "Train the Trainers" session Give references to pedagogic and research depth of the main theories.

Discussion: What is the Added Value?
What is the added value of the explanatory videos for the lecturer? What is the added value of the explanatory videos for the students? Guidelines for the instructor In this slide we will hold a short discussion with the participating lecturers, seeking mutual insights on the added value of the explanatory videos. What is the added value of the explanatory videos when it comes to teaching and learning processes?
9
What is the Added Value? The added value for the lecturer The capability to self-produce explanatory videos will provide you with better control and more involvement in the development of courses that use up-to-date teaching methods. The added value for the students Explanatory videos allow the students to learn at a n individual pace, at any time. The added value for teaching and learning Explanatory videos make it possible for lecturers to use their costly time with students for practice, discourse and learning focused on high levels of thinking. Guidelines for the instructor The slide is designed to demonstrate the need for holding the workshop and to reinforce the lecturers' motivation. The added value for the lecturer The capability to self-produce explanatory videos will provide lecturers with better control and more involvement in the development of courses that use up-to-date teaching methods. * Another advantage worth mentioning is that recording the theoretical part will allow lecturers to introduce new angles into the way they teach the course content, and to stop repeating (year in, year out) the theoretical part of the course. The added value for students Explanatory videos allow the students to learn at a personal pace, at any time. * Students facing difficulties, for example those with attention deficit, would find this a considerable added value. The added value for teaching and learning Explanatory videos make it possible for lecturers to use their costly time with the students for practice, discourse and learning focused on high levels of thinking (application, analysis, evaluation & creation). * This can be attributed to the fact that there is another way (hence it is not exclusive) to reach higher levels of thinking.

What is the Added Value? It is time to get updated! Generation Z is at the door of higher education institutions. Today's students think and communicate by way of technology. Guidelines for the instructor You can say more about Generation Z, the Smartphone generation that communicates through WhatsApp, watches (and learns from) YouTube and broadcasts clips to the world using Facebook Live. The videos do not replace the lecturers. They support the lecturer and allow to expand their professional "toolbox".

Final Emphases Re-use! Look around the Web (TED, YouTube) for videos on subjects you teach. If you find good ones, use them. Sharing is power There is no point in keeping the videos you produce just for yourself. Share your videos. It is good for the community and for you too (boosts your professional standing).
