5 How to Revise Before Revision:
Odysseus is motivated by pride. He makes fun of the cyclops. Odysseus yells, “Cyclops—if any man…should ask you who blinded you, shamed you—say Odysseus, raider of cities, he gouged out your eye, Laertes’ son who makes his home in Ithaca!” Odysseus does not have to go into the cyclops’s cave, and he certainly doesn’t have to stay to meet the creature; however, he wants to see Polyphemus so that he will have bragging rights.
