Statistics 1 in 45 children in the U.S. are homeless at some point
In Iowa, 11,500 (1%) of children ages 3 – 21 and attending a school-based program are identified as homeless annually On average, we identify 160 (3%) children as homeless and attending school at College Community for at least some point during the year Homeless Students are: 2 times more likely to have learning disabilities than non-homeless kids 4 times more likely than their peers to show delayed development 6 months behind academically every time they move to a new school

How is Homelessness defined?
Individuals who lack a regular, fixed and adequate nighttime residence. Fixed: A fixed residence is one that is stationary Regular: A regular residence is one that is used on a predictable, routine or consistent basis Adequate: An adequate residence is one that is sufficient for meeting both the physical and psychological needs typically met in home environments

What living arrangements are considered homeless?
Living in an emergency shelter or transitional housing Living with a friend or relative due to loss of housing, income, eviction, or some similar reason Living in motels, hotels, campgrounds due to the lack of adequate alternative accommodations Living in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, malls, bus stations, airports, or similar settings Awaiting foster care placement Unaccompanied youth living in the above circumstances

Goals That every student be able to be successful at school, without barriers such as transportation, lack of food, or lack of stable housing Provide resources for families Help families be able to access these resources Developing community partnerships Develop partnerships with local business/churches/programs/school districts Work with our community agencies to gain additional resources/opportunities for our students
