1 JMS Student Club Choices 2017-18

2 You May Choose Two Students may choose one club that will meet on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month (“A” Weeks), and one that will meet on the 2nd and 4th Friday (“B” Weeks). Make sure you have alternate choices in mind because some clubs fill up quickly! Selecting the same club for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice does not help your chances of getting your 1st choice club.

3 Week A 2-D Art (Mrs.Gaffney, rm 206) Improve your drawing skills! We will explore sketching, drawing, shade, shadow and other drawing with tools such as triangles, compasses, scales and templates.

4 4-H (Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Dorsey, rm 405)
Week A 4-H (Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Dorsey, rm 405) Head, Heart, Hands and Health. These are the four values that members work on through engaging programs. Note: 4-H programs will be on the 3rd Friday of each month. 1st Fridays will be study hall time.

5 American Sign Language (Mrs. McMillan, rm TBD)
Week A American Sign Language (Mrs. McMillan, rm TBD) Would you like to learn sign language? We will work on beginning sign language skills and practice together.

6 Board Games (Mrs. Hartung, rm 106)
Week A Board Games (Mrs. Hartung, rm 106) Play classics like Sorry, Trouble, Checkers, Connect 4 and Jenga, as well as card games (Uno, Phase 10, Apples to Apples and Set).

7 Brain Teasers and Number Puzzles (Mrs. Waters, rm 403)
Week A Brain Teasers and Number Puzzles (Mrs. Waters, rm 403) Like to solve challenging puzzles like Sudoku? Test your skills and sharpen your strategies in this club!

8 Classic Movies and TV (Mrs. Klein and Mrs. Champion, rm 110)
Week A Classic Movies and TV (Mrs. Klein and Mrs. Champion, rm 110) This is a culture/cinematography club where students watch and discuss clips from movies and television from various decades through American history from the 1930s to present.

9 CS First (Mrs. Swisher, Rm 209)
Week A CS First (Mrs. Swisher, Rm 209) Want to learn how to code? CS First Club will be creating computer codes using Google Scratch.

10 Environmental Club (Mrs. Yates and Mrs. Wilson, rm 109)
Week A Environmental Club (Mrs. Yates and Mrs. Wilson, rm 109) Concerned about the Earth? Learn ways to cut down on waste and take care of our environment. We’ll explore ways to reduce, reuse and recycle at school and at home.

11 FCA- Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Week A FCA- Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Coach Barnard and Coach Grigsby, Cafeteria) The Fellowship of Christian Athletes supports a faithful and pure lifestyle in school, home and athletics. You don’t have to be an athlete to join the club.

12 Friday Friends (Mrs. Kelley, rm 500)
Week A Friday Friends (Mrs. Kelley, rm 500) Have fun and help students with special needs by reading or playing games.

13 Harry Potter Club (Mrs. Hamilton, rm 202)
Week A Harry Potter Club (Mrs. Hamilton, rm 202) Come and share your love for the Harry Potter series! Students should have read the novels and be prepared to participate in club discussions and projects.

14 Get Moving! (Coach Shaw and Helpers, Gym or Outside)
Week A Get Moving! (Coach Shaw and Helpers, Gym or Outside) If you don’t have a PE class and would like to do something active, this is the club for you. We’ll meet in the gym (and go outside if the weather is nice) and get moving!

15 Junior Optimist (Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Pullen, rm 305)
Week A Junior Optimist (Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Pullen, rm 305) We help our community! Improve our school, county, state and country. Have fun while giving back to society.

16 Library Dragons (Mrs. Perdue and Mrs. Neal, Media Center)
Week A Library Dragons (Mrs. Perdue and Mrs. Neal, Media Center) For kids who love books, libraries and reading. We will READ, share books, learn about popular authors and play word games.

17 Movie Makers (Mrs. Gilleland and Mrs. DiPuma, rm 306)
Week A Movie Makers (Mrs. Gilleland and Mrs. DiPuma, rm 306) Would you like to be a filmmaker? We will explore script writing, film our skits and edit them for viewing.

18 Sci-Fi and Fantasy Club (Coach Faix, rm 207)
Week A Sci-Fi and Fantasy Club (Coach Faix, rm 207) Talk about various aspects of Sci-Fi and Fantasy in books, movies, TV shows and more!

19 SEC Sports Fans (Mr. Faber, rm 211)
Week A SEC Sports Fans (Mr. Faber, rm 211) Sports fans! Keep up with football, basketball and baseball teams in the SEC conference (and our own Pickens Dragons). We will watch video highlights from games, discuss upcoming games, talk about what teams are favored to win and more!

20 Week A Study Hall (8th- Mrs. Vincent, rm 406; 7th- Mrs. Harwell, rm 302; 6th- Mr. Brock, TBD) Extra time to complete homework, read or do something else constructive and quiet. (You may sign up for Study Hall or use this option from time to time when you need to catch up.)

21 “B” Week Clubs The Clubs described on the following slides will meet on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month.

Week B Chess Club (Coach Faix, rm 207) Play and learn new chess strategies.

23 Cover 2 Cover (Mrs. Hartung, rm 106)
Week B Cover 2 Cover (Mrs. Hartung, rm 106) Do you love to read and wish you had more reading time in school? Well, this club is for you! Bring whatever you are currently reading to this club for some quiet reading time.

24 Crafts Club (Mrs. Perdue and Helpers, Media Center)
Week B Crafts Club (Mrs. Perdue and Helpers, Media Center) We make stuff! Enjoy creating crafty projects with fabrics, paper and more. We create fun projects like sock snowmen, friendship bracelets and Origami.

25 CS First (Mrs. Swisher, Rm 209)
Week B CS First (Mrs. Swisher, Rm 209) Want to learn how to code? CS First Club will be creating computer codes using Google Scratch.

26 FFA - Future Farmers of America (Mr. Dobson and Mrs. Cagle, Cafeteria)
Week B FFA - Future Farmers of America (Mr. Dobson and Mrs. Cagle, Cafeteria) Compete in regional and national FFA contests such as livestock judging, creed speaking, prepared public speaking, poultry judging and wildlife management. (Fees required to compete and membership dues are $15; You must have Ag Tech Connections in the current school year to join this club)

Week B Friday Friends (Mrs. Kelley, rm 500) Have fun and help students with special needs by reading or playing games.

28 Madden Club (Coach Barnard and Coach Grigsby, rm 201)

29 Magic: The Gathering (Mrs. Vincent and Coach Gay, rm 406)
Week B Magic: The Gathering (Mrs. Vincent and Coach Gay, rm 406) This is a strategy game that uses collectible cards. You will learn the rules of the game and play with others at your level.

30 Online Computer Games (Mrs. Klein, 7th Grade Computer Lab)
Week B Online Computer Games (Mrs. Klein, 7th Grade Computer Lab) Play and share an assortment of online games!

31 Week B Study Hall (8th- Mrs. Pullen, TBD; 7th- Mrs. Holbert, rm 101; 6th- Mrs. Dorsey, Rm 203) Extra time to complete homework, read or do something else constructive and quiet. (You may sign up for Study Hall or use this option from time to time when you need to catch up.)

32 Wyldlife (Coach Tatum and Helpers, Gym and Multiple Locations)
Week B Wyldlife (Coach Tatum and Helpers, Gym and Multiple Locations) An exciting club where we play wild and funny games. See your friends do embarrassing things like keep a balloon in the air while pulling on a complete new layer of clothes. Each club ends with a 5 minute Bible lesson that will be helpful to you.
