COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Apply online Submit “official” high school transcript Request copies in the counselors’ office (Ms. Salgado, Registrar) Take required tests: STAAR/EOC: Next retest: December 3-6, 2018 SAT (4-yr schools) ACT (4-yr schools) TSI (if not exempt; 2-yr schools)

SCHOLARSHIPS Start early! Takes time and energy
Check with individual colleges (Deadlines are often early) Local scholarships may be smaller but easier to get (PN-G HS Local Scholarship Application is due February 22nd) Be organized. Get letters of recommendation ahead of time. Keep your resume updated. Check with any organizations with whom you or your family members are associated, such as church groups, places of employment, etc….. NEVER pay someone to help you find scholarships!

FAFSA Opens October 1st (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
You may use the IRS data retrieval tool to pull in pay-per-year tax information. Some scholarships require a FAFSA application Applying for FAFSA will tell you what grants and or loans you qualify for All students planning on attending college should complete a FAFSA application. Parent and Financial Aid Night- October 6:30pm in the auditorium

MILITARY Four branches – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines
Others – Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves Must take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)- October PNG HS Physical Check with a military recruiter.

Governing body for colleges, universities, conferences, and organizations Must meet qualifications for Division 1 or Division 2. Check the website to register and get more information.

SAT Future Dates: October 6th, November 3rd, December 1st ***2 out of 3 students who retake the SAT increase their score Khan Academy Students who practice for 6 hours averaged an increase of 90 points Students who used the Official SAT Practice of the Day for 20 hours saw an average of 115 point increase.

Must… Have admission ticket; Have valid photo ID; Register online; and Submit photo when registering. (No stand-by, test date change, or test center change on the day of the test)
