What is a Microgrid? The infrastructure to supply electricity without the utility grid: Off grid or edge of grid There is no Grid The grid is there but unreliable or its expensive A microgrid gives you autonomy Uses a power generator, connects to the loads and provides a way of managing this.

Challenges BUT SCALE PERMANENCE WHERE DO YOU GET POWER FROM?

The problem Fixed speed diesel gensets don’t do very well with varying loads They are most efficient at 70% load Load profiles vary down to 10% Unloaded Diesel generator is thirsty, more polluting and requires more frequent servicing Users ALWAYS oversize the generator, what's the maximum load? Add a margin of error What is the next larger standard unit size? What is actually available to procure? All these steps can lead to a generator that is double the required size. Plus the required size is determined by the maximum load which may not be a very common occurrence, it may never happen WATT NOW – 2 years of monitoring in NL
