05/2009 MGI Channels MGI – Media Gateway Interface Converts IP to TDM, SPNet, SIP, H.323, T.38 fax, Inband or Out-of-band signaling of DTMF tones, QoS (ToS/Diffserv), 802.1q/802.1p VLAN Tagging/Priority and IP-UMS Supports Codecs = G.729, G.729A, G & G.711 The MGI does nothing but handle the “voice” part of the network call. It converts the TDM voice to IP packets and vice versa so that the networked sites can talk to each other. Copyright 2009 Samsung Telecommunications America. All rights reserved. 12
MPS Channels MPS = Media Proxy Server
Provides IP to IP conversations without using MGI channels If both nodes have IP sets and a call is established MPS can/is used to free up MGI channels An MGI resource is required to supply Ringback tone even during IP to IP communications 7030, 7100 = built on processor 7200S = on processor + OAS 7200 & 7400 = OAS only
13
RTG RTG = Ring Tone Generation
RTG channels are specialized MPS channels that provide ringback tone, hold tone and MOH (only internal chimes) 1 RTG call is equivalent to 1 MPS call (2 MPS ports) RTG channels are only available when MPS Service is enabled
