1. What is the Writing center?

2. General purpose
The general purpose of the writing center is to assist students with all disciplines concerning writing such as brainstorming, developing a thesis, organizing ideas, grammar, formatting, and more.
The goal is to help them in their writing skills, so they walk out of the center as a better writers.

3. What the center does not do
WE ARE NOT AN EDITING SERVICE
Consultants will not take students’ papers into their own hands to mark up with a red pen.
A collaborative review and walkthrough of the paper with the student is best when working on an essay.
The writing center prefers to help better the students’ writing skills more than simply perfecting a single paper. This way, the student can perform better on future essays.

4. The Details
The consultants in the center can help students in any stage of the writing process including: brainstorming, thesis development, topic organization, word flow, syntax, and grammar.
When a student comes in for help on a paper, one of our consultants can have a session of up to 45 minutes with him/her and give them proper assistance in their paper.
The center is also an informational source. We provide students with handouts on many specific elements of English and writing. Handout topics consist of grammar, essay organization and development, sentence structure, formatting and more.
