1 Warm Up: \\ Who are these men? What role do you think they play in the new government? Are they friends or enemies?

2 Today’s Question: What beliefs do Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson have about how the new nation should run?

3 Agenda: In groups: Read biographical briefing on Jefferson or Hamilton Create “visual representation” of his beliefs

4 Visual Representation:
A visual representation is a way of expressing ideas, thoughts, or information without using words. Instead, illustrations, pictures or symbols are used to convey meaning.

5 Guidelines for Visual Representations:
Clear and Understandable: The visual representation must be easy to “read” and allow the viewer to gain a clear understanding of the historical figure’s ideas. Complete and thorough: Must include historical figure’s ideas on these five issues: nature of human beings, type of government, the Constitution, political party, and ideal economy. Appropriate format: You may format your visual in a poster, collage, illustration, flag, mural, etc. Or, you may choose to represent the “vision” literally—an illustration of a man’s eyes looking at various symbols representing his beliefs. Prominent use of visual symbols: You must use mostly symbols, not words, to convey the ideas of Jefferson and Hamilton. You may use drawings, symbols, and other graphic. Title: Each visual representation should be titled “The Beliefs and Ideals of_____”

6 Group Roles: Reader: Reads biographical briefing aloud to the group. Contributes ideas for visual representation Discussion Leader: Leads the groups discussion on the biographical briefing. Contributes ideas for the visual representation. Graphic Designer: Responsible for creating “the look” for the poster. Takes notes and contributes ideas during the brainstorming session. Determines what kind of visuals should be incorporated into the poster. Works closely with the illustrator to create a rough sketch of the poster. Illustrator: Responsible for creating the artwork for the visual representation. Contributes ideas during the brainstorming session. Works with the graphic designer to create both the rough draft and the final draft.

7 Group work: Work with your group. Talking to another group can distract them from their tasks and hinder their learning as well as your own. Direct your attention toward the other members of your group at all times. Stay on task. As interesting as the football game or tv show on last night is, you are in class and should remained focused on your group assignments.
