Please make sure that your child’s teacher knows of any allergies that your child has.
Children are required to attend kindergarten. A doctor’s note or a written excuse from a parent is required following ANY absence. Children have the option of eating a hot breakfast in the classroom for $1.10, which begins after Labor Day. You must fill out a transportation request form and the form must be approved before your child may get on a bus. If you want to invite children to a birthday party outside of school, we will be glad to pass out invitations if ALL students in the class are invited.

Parent conferences will be scheduled at the end of the first nine weeks or as needed. Other means of communication include s, telephone calls, notes, and newsletters. Discipline—See Class Brochure

Emergency Procedures- The local radio and television stations will have official dismissal times in case of snow or bad weather. Fees for kindergarten ($15) can be paid in the multipurpose room tonight! Educational field trips are an important part of our curriculum. We will take two trips this school year. Mrs. Becky Ross, our guidance counselor, will visit our classroom on a regular basis to teach lessons about social skills.

Be NVOLVED in your child's learning!
Your child will be given an optional, monthly homework menu to review skills at home. Your child will also have a monthly, thematic reading log in order to encourage reading at home. Hours: The building is open at 7:30. Students are tardy at 7:50. Children are dismissed at 2:35 PM. Be NVOLVED in your child's learning! Children will have opportunities to write in journals . Students will also participate in other authentic writing experiences this school year through writer’s workshop.

Keys to Learning to Read- The four predictors of a child learning to read well by third grade are:
A. The number of hours being read to B. The number of books in the home C. Seeing others read and write for different purposes D. The ability to rhyme Lunch is $2.15 a day. Please put lunch money in an envelope/Ziploc bag and mark it with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and lunch on the outside. Please send in a healthy lunch if your child brings a lunchbox. You can also access your child’s account at lunchprepay.com.

If your child is to be given any prescription or over the counter medicine at school, a form must be filled out and signed by a doctor for a prescription or a parent for over the counter medicine. All students will go to the multi-purpose room when they arrive to school before 7:40. Please place all notes in your child’s Daily Folder. We encourage you to use the clear envelope in the Mead Folder. Open House/Kindergarten Parent Night will be in September. Kindergarten teachers will be hosting informational sessions in their classrooms.

Our PTO supports our school by providing needed supplies and materials to classroom teachers. We encourage all family members to join. Pick Up Procedures-If your child’s regular pick up routine changes, we MUST HAVE WRITTEN NOTICE or in case of an emergency a phone call to the office. CHANGES WILL NOT BE TAKEN BY THE OFFICE AFTER 2:00pm. Children need some quiet time daily. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Report Cards- You will receive your child’s first report card at the parent conference scheduled at the end of the first nine weeks. Remaining report cards will be sent home at the end of the other three nine weeks. Each month a snack calendar will be sent home. You will be assigned a day to provide snack for the entire class. We ask that you send in a healthy snack as well as any needed utensils. Spirit Day is the last school day of each month! We encourage everyone to wear their Shine On t-shirts. Children who enter the classroom after 7:50 AM will be marked tardy. Any child having five of more unexcused tardies during the year will not receive a certificate for perfect attendance.

Comfortable clothes and tennis shoes are the best usual attire for your child to wear to school. Little girls that wish to wear dresses are encouraged to wear shorts underneath them. You may sign up on our volunteer sheet tonight! When volunteering in related arts or the classroom, please do not bring siblings. Siblings may be brought to the teacher workroom. What to Bring: A backpack needs to be brought every day to get items from home to school and items from school back home. At the beginning of school, please make sure that your child has at least one change of clothes inside his/her backpack.

Xtra Activities- Your child will attend Library with Mrs
Xtra Activities- Your child will attend Library with Mrs. Kaye, Music with Mrs. Donnan, Computer Lab with Mrs. Lindley, Art with Mrs. Pearson, and Physical Education with Mr. Little. Your child will need to wear tennis shoes and shorts/pants in order to participate in P.E. on Thursday. Young Children- Your children are capable of performing many chores at home. Chores encourage independence and raise self-esteem. Z-Z-Z-Z- PLEAZZZ make sure your child gets appropriate rest. Sleep deprivation has a definite adverse affect on a child ability to learn. Four to eight-year-olds need 10 hours of sleep every night.
