2 AGENDA Practice Lab New Learning Center

3 PRACTICE LAB Live June 2016 How many of you have used the Practice Lab to conduct training? How many have used it at PETS training or as Pre-PETS training? CALL ON SOME PEOPLE TO SHARE HOW THEY USED IT Has anyone not heard of the Practice Lab? Can someone explain it? It is all dummy data. You can edit, delete, and share with anyone without compromising the data security of our systems. Limited access for trainers conducting online training. If anyone is interested, we ask them to fill out a quick form online. If we have passwords available, you can get one, otherwise you will be placed on the wait list. Passwords are refreshed every three months at which time we reissue passwords to those on the wait list. So you are a trainer and want to train others. What are some things to consider: Data refresh approximately every three months. Rotary Club Central will be refreshed in the Practice Lab by November You can share your log ins – but you could be in the system watching someone else change data It isn’t for more than 20 people at once to log in at the same time and receive direction to push the same button at the same time. It will crash the system. To work around this is to give participants some tasks on a handout so they can try them out in a practice session with facilitators available for questions. This is a great tool for webinars. The trainer can walk participants through the steps and record it for others to view. It is great for live demos in smaller rooms where it is easy to see the screen. Grab screen shots One-on-one training we may consider the idea of setting aside 20 logins that people can 'check out' for a period; we can't block other users, but they can lead a training for up to 20

8 PETS TRAINING RESOURCES
Hi, I’m Kimberly Kouame, Manager of Learning Resources. My team creates the Lead Your Club: President Manual and the PETS Leader’s Guide. Kimberly Kouame Manager, Learning Resources

9 AGENDA President-elect materials Curriculum update
Resources for trainers Today I wanted to give you an update on presidents-elect materials, the PETS curriculum, and our resources we have for your trainers.

10 CLUB LEADER MANUALS District Governors-elect
Lead Your Club: President sent in July Rotary International DGE distributes to clubs before PETS District Governors-elect Read before PETS and come with questions Club Presidents-elect Change to the mailing- Lead Your Club: President mailed July to DGEs. In our training survey to club officers, we noted that club officers aren’t aware of our materials. This was concerning because we had been physically mailing all 8 manuals to governors-elect to distribute to clubs, but it didn’t’ seem to be happening consistently. So another change we made this year was to mail the governor-elect only the Lead Your Club: President’s manual which went out this month. So governors-elect should start to receive them. We encourage DGEs to distribute these to their club presidents in time for them to review the manual before attending PETS. That way, they can come ready with questions and you can spend less time on teaching the basics. CDS has sent an to DGEs explaining the changes and promoting the online courses for each officer. We would ask you to promote these courses at your Pre-PETS and PETS events to ensure that all club officers are aware of their roles and responsibilities before PETS and District Training Assembly.

11 CLUB PRESIDENT COURSES
As Sarah mentioned earlier, we posted 8 new courses, one for each club officer. On the screen I have the Club President subject selected. When the club president clicks on their role in the left menu, they will see 5 courses relevant to their role: Online Membership Leads Is Your Club Healthy Club President Basics Rotary Club Central Basics Rotary Foundation Basics These are all courses we recommend for the club president. The plan is to provide additional courses for club officers to help them run their club or to add interactive information into their Club President Basics course. We are still working out with this would look like, but if you have any ideas or feedback, we would love to hear from you. Please send them my way.

12 PRESIDENT-ELECT MATERIALS
These courses were posted on the Learning Center at the beginning of July. We would like to see if this brings more visibility to the materials in these courses and increase the club officer’s knowledge that these materials exist. Aside from creating these courses with existing materials, we haven’t made any edits to these materials. We make revisions to these materials on a tri-annual basis. Starting this month, we are looking to revise these courses including having a new Lead Your Club: President’s manual. Our goal will be to reduce the manual to the most essential information that a club president needs to do their job. We will also be looking at the course Club President Basics, and determining if any other courses need to be created for this role and other club officer roles. Materials: Message from Rotary President (video) * Lead Your Club: President * Creating Your Club Leadership Plan Worksheet How to Create a My Rotary Account Additional Resources – Click here to get additional resources for Club Presidents. Course evaluation

13 CURRICULUM UPDATE To give you a refresher, our PETS curriculum consists of role-based sessions, such as Planning Your Year, Running Your Meetings, Leading Rotarians, and Running Your Club. The sessions are written in a variety of formats depending on the topic and what the learning outcomes are. This year we have made no revisions to the curriculum. Next Revision On Thursday I met with a small focus group to get some ideas for the next revision. Show of hands who participated in that focus group. If you have any additional thoughts about the curriculum, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with your feedback over the coming weeks.

14 Rotary.org/trainers As a reminder, you can find the Leader’s Guide online on rotary.org by going to Rotary.org/trainers. Or you can navigate there via Learning and Reference, then click on the trainer’s page.

15 When you open it, you get a zip file with all the sessions inside, even a PPT template.
You can pick and choose which ones to offer. The sessions are in Word format so you can easily modify them based on the needs of your participants.

16 OPTIONAL SESSIONS Fundraising Using Social Media
Your Public Image Campaign Service and Your Community Telling Your Rotary Story Rotary Programs for Young Leaders In addition to the updated sessions, we have some optional sessions in our Learning Center that could be used to supplement your PETS curriculum. Has anyone used these sessions in their PETS? Which ones? Anyone thinking about using them? We’ve updated the instructions in the introduction section of the leader’s guide guide on how to access these, and added the Trainer’s Toolkit ad, which you have in your binder. Based on your feedback we focused on the sessions that most reflect the club experience. We learned that the role-based sessions for Presidents-elect were most popular and felt to be the best use of time.

17 TRAINER’S TOOLKIT The optional sessions can be found in the Learning Center as part of the Trainer’s Toolkit by clicking on the v sign next to the Additional recourses in the Trainer’s Toolkit for organizers under TRAINERS TOOLS: Trainer’s Library.

18 TRAINER TOOLS Additional recourses in the Trainer’s Toolkit for organizers under TRAINERS TOOLS: Budget worksheet Facilitator checklist Planning calendar There’s also a sample PETS agenda and a needs assessment questionnaire

19 TRAINER RESOURCES Lead Your District: Training
Train-the-Trainer Leader’s Guide Webinars In addition to the Trainer’s Toolkit, we have other resources for your trainers to use. This includes Lead Your District: Training and our train-the-trainer materials, which have both been updated. Lead Your District: Training was updated last year and can be found on the trainer page of the web site. How many conduct a train-the-trainer for your breakout facilitators? Is this done onsite at PETS, or at a different time? What do you typically cover? It’s great to hear this, as of course the more prepared your trainers are the better quality the training will be. Lastly we have webinars for trainers to get more information or for trainers to promote to presidents-elect.

20 TRAINING TALK We also produce Training Talk, which is a monthly newsletter that includes training news, organizational updates, and links to resources. We also feature training tips, and we invite our trainers to submit tips that we can publish. Who here subscribes to Training Talk? If you’re not already subscribed, sign up at rotary.org/newsletters.

21 QUESTIONS Thank you for allowing me to share with you this afternoon.
Sarah and I will now open the floor to any questions. If you have additional questions, or feedback on our materials that you’d like to share, please contact us at our mailbox at Also, my cards are on the table in the back if you’d like to contact me directly. Thank you again and enjoy the rest of your meeting.
