1 the same as REAL FRIENDS!
Privacy: Online Friends are NOT the same as REAL FRIENDS! This is lesson #1: Privacy – Online Friends are Not the same as REAL FRIENDS! This Power Point was created by the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. Please do not modify the content. For more information go to

2 ALERT!! Don’t share your personal information online!
This lesson is about PRIVACY – what kids should and should not share online. First, explain to the kids the need to understand that they should NEVER share personal information with a stranger, same way they are taught to never talk to a stranger they don’t know at the park or grocery store. Next, engage the kids. Ask them what do they think personal information is?

3 What is Personal Information?
PRIVACY What is Personal Information? Full Name Age Address Plans or Location Phone Number Password Gender You Should NEVER share the following: Full Name – First and Last Address – any home, place you go, or school Phone Number or cell number Gender – are you boy or girl Age – how old you are Plans or Location – where you are going to be, who you are going with, when you’re doing something, what you are going to be doing. Password – your login and secret codes (You shouldn’t share this with your friends either, only with your parent or guardian). Why should we keep this private? Someone could find where you live and show up uninvited. It is okay to have general information about your interests on social media or gaming sites, but you want to be CAREFUL. Engage the audience so they know what is OKAY to share. Ex: love for basketball, or food.

4 WHO is WHO? You should never trust a stranger online. How do you know if they are who they say they are? Online Friends are not the same as Real Friends. Sharing your personal information with someone you don’t know can put you in danger. Engage the kids - who should we tell if a stranger contacts you online?

5 Tell a Parent, Guardian or Teacher
It is IMPORTANT to tell a parent, guardian or teacher if a stranger contacts you online. You SHOULDN’T open or answer any s from anyone you don’t know. Or agree to meet anyone you’ve met online without talking to your parents and taking them with you.

6 YOUR TURN! Is it okay to share?
