Fig. 1 The prototype of the ETHOS surgical chair consists of a saddle-like seat, an adjustable chest support, two individually adjustable armrests, and footrests. (a) The height of the seat is adjusted by motor lift from 89cm to 122cm, and the distance between the footrests is 89cm. (b) For pelvic surgery, ETHOS is moved over the patient's head, once the patient is under anesthesia. (c) For transperitoneal laparoscopy and retroperitoneoscopy, the chair position is approximated from the patient's abdomen and flank.
