1 Kart Racing

2 The historical aspect Art Ingels is generally accepted to be the father of kart racing. A veteran hot rodder and a race car builder at Kurtis Kraft, he built the first kart in Southern California in Kart racing has rapidly spread to other countries, and currently has a large following in Europe. At first they built a test track which wasn’t really complicated. But later on, in 1959 they created a more complicated track with long and tight corners. In the straight lines the go karts would roughly reach a hundred kilometers per hour.

3 This is the first go kart!

4 What is it? Kart racing is a competition sport where the objective is to do a certain amount of laps around a track and to finish before the others! It is a very physical sport which requires a good physical training. Go karts are basically tubes welded together to form a rigid chassis without any suspension. On that you add a 125cc type of engine and you’ve got a kart!

5 Different categories The are three principals categories.
- There is the 125cc which is the basic category. The go karts reach about 120 km/h in steat lines. - There is the 125cc shifter wich have six gears and go very fast. They reach about 200 km/h and in some tight corners go faster than formula one cars! - Finally there is the super kart category wich are in fact a part. They have twice as more power than normal karts and reach about 250 km/h.

6 Kart racing is really fun but like everything there are the good aspects and the less good ones.
- It develops driving reflexes and allow safer driving but on the other hand, because of the high speeds, if you crash, it can be very dangerous.
