2 Possessive Nouns Most nouns have not only a plural form but also a possessive form. You use a possessive noun to express ownership or show a relationship. The possessive form of a noun is often followed by another noun. Jerry’s mother The boys’ song A penguin’s egg My sisters’ bikes

3 The possessive form of a noun often replaces the word of or the verb have
Wool of a sheep = sheep’s wool The dogs have bones = the dogs’ bones

4 The rules for possessive nouns
1. For a singular noun, add an apostrophe s (‘s) Morris’s coat, puppy’s ears 2. for a plural noun that ends with s, add an apostrophe only ‘ Doctors’ offices, soldiers’ uniforms 3. For a plural noun that does not end with s, add an apostrophe and s (‘s) Mice’s hole, children’s toys 4.
