5 NOUN: The name of a person, place, thing, or idea.
Proper nouns name a particular person, place, thing, or idea and are capitalized. Common nouns are not capitalized. Concrete nouns are names of objects (objects you can see, touch, taste, and smell) Abstract nouns are names of ideas, feelings, qualities, or characteristics. (examples: freedom, truth) Collective noun: a noun that names a group; examples: a bloat of hippos, a quiver of cobras, a parliament of owls, a nuisance of housecats, a murder of crows, a rabble of butterflies, a charm of hummingbirds

6 More Nouns… Nouns are singular (sing.) if they describe individual things or plural (pl.) if they describe multiple things. Examples: boat/boats, flock/flocks, etc. When we address someone directly, the person’s name or title is called the noun of direct address. Example: “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.”
