BASIC CONCEPTS The proposed ground segment for the WSO/UV has been defined as a fully distributed architecture composed of modular layers: Each layer contains components with identical functionality providing a concrete added value to the next layer in the hierarchy. The principles behind this layered architecture are very similar to the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model. The layered design of the ground segment is the concrete form of implementing the international collaboration. According to this guideline, each layer shares architecture, technology, operational procedures and knowledge to provide homogeneous services to the next layer in the model. 4 WSO/WIC Meeting - Moscow 2006
Ground station layer: Comprises the network of primary and backup ground stations. Control centre layer: Includes the control centres co-located with a ground station, under the coordination of the mission control centre. Science centre layer: Comprises the science operations centre and the different national/regional science centres. End user layer: The science users. SOME QUESTIONS: Do you agree with these work packages? Which is the minimum antenna set-up and the participants in the ground segment?, do they agree to go through qualification tests (and pay for them)? Distributed MOC with a Russian prime?, only Russian MOC from launch until nominal orbit reached? How are Russian, Chinese and Spanish technologies interact? What about SOC?, Instruments SOCs? Could we agree in a common phase A/B study? Ana I Gómez de Castro WSO/WIC Meeting - Moscow 2006
