AHD Requirements- 47 credits
Complete all Core 40 requirements. 2 AP courses or 2 DC courses or 1 of each are required for AHD. Grade no lower than “C” on the transcript. Cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or higher. 3 years of same foreign language required. 2 fine arts credits required.

THD Requirements- 47 credits
Complete Core 40 requirements. Earn 6 credits in college & career prep courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and 1 of the following: State approved, industry recognized certification or credential, or 6 transcripted college credits from state approved dual credit pathway Grade no lower than “C” on transcript. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Career paths & certifications offered thru Walker Career Center (ex: Automotive Technology, Welding, Dental Assisting, Computers and more).

GPA & Class Rank Class Ranking is based upon the student's Grade Point Average: As an example, each final letter grade for the semester is assigned a point value as listed below. A = Pts B- = Pts D+ = Pts A- = Pts C+ = Pts D = Pts B+ = Pts C = Pts D- = Pts B = Pts C- = Pts F = Pts. Cumulative GPA = Total cumulative points Total attempted classes

Honors courses Taken during 9th and/or 10th grade.
Level I weight factor. No prerequisites. Courses are open to any student (8th grade teachers make recommendations). No additional fees. Designed to prepare students for AP/DC courses.

Advanced Placement Courses
Taken during 11th and/or 12th grade (can also be taken during 10th) Level II or Level III weight factor. AP courses are college level courses. Check Recommended Foundational Courses. Curriculum determined by College Board. College credit may be earned. AP exam given in May (fees may apply). Numerical score of 1-5 is given vs. letter grade. Score of 3 is considered passing. Colleges may issue credit with a score of 3, 4 or 5.

AP courses meet 1 of the AHD requirements. Responsibility of student and parent to confirm if and how college credit will be awarded. AP courses/exams are nationally recognized.

Dual Credit courses Taken during 11th and/or 12th grade.
Level II or Level III weight factor. Curriculum determined by college. College credit and high school credit are earned simultaneously (1 high school credit = 3 college credit hours). Fees per credit hour apply. Check Recommended Foundational Courses. GPA requirement or PSAT score requirements may apply.

Responsibility of student and parent to transfer college credits. DC courses meet 1 of the AHD requirements. IED & POE DO NOT count towards AHD requirements!! Participating universities and colleges include: Indiana University University of Southern Indiana Vincennes University Ivy Tech

Scheduling Curriculum Guide (NPHS website under “Guidance” found under “Quick Links”). ALL classes available to Freshmen outlined on 9th grade scheduling sheet that students brought home in ‘Red’ Folder. REQUIRED classes for all Freshmen: English 9 (Regular or Honors) Math (Algebra 1, Geometry or Honors Geometry) Science Career Planning Math Lab and/or Language Arts Lab (if needed) Health & PE

Scheduling Students have 1 week to complete a paper/pencil schedule AND input in PowerSchool. All schedules due on April 13th!! Office hours for parents on April 10th from 5pm - 7pm at NPHS. We recommend parents and students work together for course selections. 2 PE credits & 1 Health credit to be completed by end of 10th grade year (includes summers). Schedules are not mailed, but become available on PowerSchool sometime in summer.

Summer School- NPHS online
Online option for PE and/or Health Register via link sent by Mr. Barton or on Canvas Online courses begin Monday, June 4th & ends on June 29th No cost for NPHS online

Summer School at NPHS PE is only option
Registration completed via form in red folder (forms also available at NPHS website under “Guidance”) Registration forms w/ payment turned in to DCMS or NPHS by May 5th PE begins Monday, June 4th & ends Friday, June 22nd Class starts at 7:30am & ends at 12:30pm Students can only miss 2 days Cost is $40 (includes transportation fee & activity fee)

Freshman Advice Take your Freshman year seriously!!
Get involved!! Clubs, Sports, Fine Arts or activities. Create a 4-year plan (YES! It will change!) Volunteer/community service and keep track of hours. Start thinking about post-secondary options. Know the graduation requirements

Summer PE begins June 7:30am. Deadline to register for NPHS Online & at NPHS is May 4th Dragon Fresh Start- Thursday, August 2nd- 9am – 11:30am. 21st Century Scholars deadline is June 30th! Athletic Physicals - May 14th, 6:00pm – 8:00pm in NPHS auxiliary gym. Cost is $25.
