Partnership with Apple
Australian-first collaboration with Apple to deliver App development with Swift curriculum Provide opportunities to students that want to join the booming app economy Equipping students in Australia with the skills to carry them into the growing app economy Providing some context that we are the first University to do this in Australia.

Growing App economy The growing app economy is an important source of employment contributing to economic growth in Australia, currently with an estimated 113,000 jobs. [Mandel & Long (2017), “The Rise of the Australian App Economy] Demand for digital skills in Australia continues to expand and by 2022, the nation will need an extra 81,000 specialist tech workers. The broader Information Communication Technology (ICT) workforce will increase by 236,700 jobs. [Deloitte Access Economics (2017), report for the Australian Computer Society, “Australia’s Digital Pulse”] Adding the importance of the growing app economy and where the market is heading. The teachers will be very interested in this for their upcoming students.

What is Swift? Swift is an innovative programming language created by Apple for building everything from mobile apps to desktop software to services in the cloud. You can explain this, feel free to add examples and be able to break down what this all means to the average person that has no idea what programming is.

Summer School Program Next generation of coders being developed at RMIT through free summer program High school students get the chance to build a prototype app in just four days Here you can talk about the program, what you did, what were some of the apps that the students developed? Etc. Over 70 students came on campus and did x, y, z.

What’s next… Suite of new online and face-to-face RMIT courses, based on Apple’s App Development with Swift curriculum Hope to run Winter School Program You can talk about the range of courses available now and also hopefully will be able to roll out the winter program. I’m also finding out about the scholarship for the 100 teachers. Just need to confirm if it still exists.
