Thyroxine
2
Gland Thyroid Gland Regulates metabolism and Calcium Balance.
Works with the parathyroid gland to control calcium levels Hormones secreted are regulated by the pituitary gland
3
Functions of Thyroxine
Stimulates the consumption of oxygen and therefore controlling the metabolism of all cells in the body. Metabolism is the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life.
4
Positive or Negative Feedback?
Negative- decrease the thyrotrophin secretion from the pituitary gland Positive- effects the hypothalamus stimulating the secretion of thyrotrophin inhibitory factor
5
Hypo-Hyper Secretions
Hyperthyroidism- over production of hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) Tumors in the ovaries and testes Graves disease Hypothyroidism- under production of hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) Depression Sensitivity to coldness
6
Goiter Enlargement of the Thyroid gland.
Caused by Hypo and Hyperthyroidism.
