2 Writing Bible Social Studies
Reading More Information About our Learning: *Students have been enjoying many different back to school themed books. The books focus in on being kind and compassionate to others. *We are working toward building our collaborative classroom environment. Students are learning how to do the rotations and practicing different reading and writing skills in the process. How You Can Help At Home *Encourage the use of our vocabulary words (on the front page) so that student can learn how to use them in daily language. *Reading to and listening to your child read is a great way to practice fluency and other important reading skills. Try to make reading together a regular part of your evening. Math How You Can Help At Home More Information About our Learning: *Students will be working on place value in our upcoming math unit. They will focus on ones, tens, and hundreds. Students who are ready will work on bigger numbers and rounding. How You Can Help At Home *Talk about numbers. For instance in the number 325 you could point out that the value of the three is actually 300, the value of the two is 20, and the value of the five is just five. *Make up simple number patters that count by 10’s 2’s, 100’s or 5’s. Have them continue the pattern. Students who are ready could do even bigger patterns. *Practice putting sets of three or more numbers in order. Practice using language such as “greater than, less than” or “equal to” when comparing just two numbers. Writing Bible Social Studies About our Learning: About our Learning: We have been learning about creation. Students created an animal or plant (living thing) from Play-Doh. They were asked to breathe into it to make it come to life. Of course they could not do it. We talked about how God has given us the power to create, but that we are not as powerful as God who made the entire world and also living things. We are now working through the days of creation one by one and are creating a project, as we learn, that we will be able to share with the younger students to help them learn about God’s creation too. How You can Help: *Practice their memory verse daily. *Talk about the story of creation and the power of God. About our Learning : Our first unit will be about our families and cultural heritage. (We be switching between science and social studies units throughout the year.) How You Can Help: *Talk to your child about the countries that their ancestors came from. *Find the countries on a map. *Show them the flags from those countries *If possible, find books or watch videos featuring the culture of those places. We are learning about the writing process. *Brainstorm *Draft *Revise *Edit *Publish How You Can Help: *Talk with your child about ideas for stories. *When you read with them, ask them why they think the author wrote the story (What was the purpose?)

3 Parent Feedback Requested
Please return this little survey as soon as possible. I am trying out a new format for my class newsletter in order to give additional information about what we are working on and what you can help with at home. You are not being required to do these activities, but they are intended to give some ideas for those who want to work on the skills we are learning in class. So what do you think? ___ It’s information overload ___ It’s helpful to me Student Name: ______________________________ Also, we will be working on a heritage project in social studies class. Please write one country that your ancestors come from so I can individualize the project for your child. Thanks! Name of country for my child to study from our ancestry: _________________________ Parent Feedback Requested Please return this little survey as soon as possible.
