Notice any unusual changes Don’t be afraid to ask how someone is As a manager use regular 1-1s, use private/neutral venue Ask if they want to bring an advocate, suggest alternative contacts Ask open questions, listen, ask if there’s any way to help Explore helpful adaptations to make at work Focus on person’s strengths/capabilities Be aware of sources of support in & outside of work Keep in touch during absence, include/invite Be clear on confidentiality. Ask what if any information & how they prefer it to be shared with colleagues/team Recognise when professional help is needed

Help-lines Saneline : pm – 11pm daily SANE runs a national, out-of-hours mental health helpline offering specialist emotional support and information to anyone affected by any kind of mental illness (from mild to more severe), including family, friends and carers CALM pm- midnight daily web-chat Campaign Against Living Miserably, for men aged 15-35 Samaritans (toll free) 24 hours daily Confidential support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair. Mind , Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm –self help information Promotes the views and needs of people with mental health problems.
