1 6.7 Writing Linear Functions

2 What would the equation be if the slope was -3 and the y-intercept was 1?
What would the equation be for the linear function f(x) whose graph has a slope of -5 and a y-intercept of -6?

3 Writing Linear Equations
To write a linear equation all you need is the slope and y-intercept. Once you have the slope and y-intercept, write the equation in slope-intercept form, y = mx + b.

4 The table shows several ordered pairs for the linear function f(x)
The table shows several ordered pairs for the linear function f(x). Write an equation for f(x). x f(x) -1 -2 1 6 3 14

5 2. The graph shows the weight of a female elephant as she grows from 1 year to 3 years. What was the weight of the elephant at birth?

6 Write an equation to represent the situation.
Then find the weight at birth. What does the weight at birth represent in our graph?

7 Review: Write an equation for the linear function f(x) using the given information.
