3 What is Law Review? The complete response:
“Our primary purpose is to produce and publish innovative, high quality legal scholarship. Each year we publish a volume composed of five issues. Each issue contains work from legal scholars, professors, practitioners, and our students. Members write their own original Note under the close supervision of an Editor. They subsequently have the opportunity to satisfy the writing requirement and submit their work for publication.”

Mentorship/Skill Development Signaling for Employers, Judges Variety of roles/duties Fulfill writing requirement with Note BONUS: You get to explain to family and friends what “Law Review” is.

7 How to Become a Member Eligibility:
Student entering their second year of law school (note: special rules for joint-degree students and transfers). Scoring: 75% Write-On + 25% Grades (considers both 1L semesters). Top 10 Write-On scores are invited automatically. Privacy: All grading is blind and confidential.

8 Write-On components Three Parts:
Bluebooking: 4 packets of 15 footnotes. Cite-Checking: 1 packet of approximately 20 footnotes. Writing Sample: 2000 word abbreviated comment. Time Commitment: 30+ hours (but varies by person).

9 PART I: BluebookinG Tasks: Correct citations per Bluebook and Goldbook. Example: Knope v. Swanson, 123 US 125, 131; See e.g., Haverford, supra note 14, at 789. Knope v. Note: Errors include (but are not limited to): typeface, placement of certain information, missing components, etc.

10 PART II: CITE-CHECKING
Tasks: Correct Bluebooking AND verify info in citations. Example: Ludgate v. Dwyer, 321 F.3d. 495, 501 (9th Cir. 2011) (“Little Sebastian is the hero we don’t deserve”). Ludgate v. Perkins, 321 F.2d 495, 502 (9th Cir. 2010) (“Little Sebastian is the hero you don’t deserve”). Note: Errors include (but are not limited to): incorrect quotations, improper PINs, wrong publication year, etc.

11 PART III: Writing Sample
Tasks: Abbreviated comment regarding a “Circuit Split.” Structure: Introduction; Law; Analysis; Conclusion. Grading: Organization; quality of argument; writing clarity; use of authority; proper Bluebooking; etc. Graded by multiple editors (to ensure consistency). Remind that this is a closed universe

12 The Write-On scoring Bluebooking: 40% total (each packet is worth 10%). Cite-checking: 10% total score. Writing Sample: 50% of total score.

13 SELECTION Selection: 75% Write-On + 25% Grades (both semesters).
Top 10 Write-On scores invited to join regardless of grades. Results: All results are final. Scores will not be released to any candidate. Notifications: July 6, 2018 (tentative).

14 HONOR CODE REVIEW (1/2) CLOSED UNIVERSE:
You may not consult any outside materials during the Write-On other than The Bluebook, Goldbook, and PPT slides from bluebook training presentation. NO COLLABORATION: You may NOT collaborate on packets with anyone. NO MANIPULATIVE TACTICS NO PLAGIARISM

15 HONOR CODE REVIEW (2/2) Failure to adhere to the Honor Code will result in your disqualification from the Write-On Competition and Law Review. Violators also may face disciplinary actions from the University. If you have a question regarding the Honor Code, contact the Law Review ASAP to discuss.
