Library loads MARC for selected books in ILS
ILL Librarian evaluates request and determines whether to borrow or buy
POD
Sometimes the loaned book is never returned, causing issues for acquisitions.
Had to develop a means of recording the ILL as a use for the item.
PDA
Costs can spiral out of control if the library does not take precautionary measures.
Books must be identified in catalog as PDA to facilitate management of the MARC.
Identification has to be updated once the item is purchased.
Customer is presented PDA titles with all other search results
ILL Librarian orders book from one of 2 vendors – no processing, quick shipment
After contractual use criteria are met, library billed for the e-book.
When the book comes in, treated like any other ILL
When returned by customer given to Acquisitions to process
MARC record is modified to show ownership.
