Make your own children’s book!
You get to create your own children’s book that explains Manifest Destiny!!! :) Must be nonfictional and historically accurate. Your topic could be: Texan Revolution Mexican War Lewis & Clark Expedition Oregon Trail War of 1812 Trail of Tears Choose 1 and stick with it!!

Overview of Children’s Storybook: Story book must be at least 5 pages long (not counting cover) Book must have a cover with title, author, and picture A Synopsis (summary of your story on the back) Story book must have an illustration (drawing or print out that is colored) on each page. The story must be historically accurate and summarize topic in a way that a 3rd grader could understand Includes specific list of characters and topics provided by your teacher.

Timeline of Children’s Book Project
Tuesday: Select topic, research any needed info for story (research) Wednesday: Finish research, begin rough draft and picture ideas on GO Thursday: Finish rough draft of story with picture ideas on GO (rough draft and pictures) Friday: Peer feedback day- share rough drafts and get suggestions, make improvements (Graphic Organizer (purple sheet) due- 8 Points) Weekend: Begin putting book together Monday: Make sure cover is completed, summary on back cover, 5 pages with picture on each page. Finish book Tuesday: Books are due…ready to share with 3rd grade classes…(if yours is not done you will probably make a 7 year old cry because they won’t get a story)

Texas Revolution Requirements: Things that MUST be included:
Story book must be at least 5 pages long (not counting cover) Book must have a cover with title and author A Synopsis (summary of your story on the back) Story book must have an illustration (drawing or print out that is colored) on each page. The story must be historically accurate and summarize how Texas went from part of Mexico to being its’ own country in a way that a 3rd grader could understand The story must detail the conflict and resolution The following 3 people must be included in the story: Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna William Travis Sam Houston The following 2 events must be included: Battle at Alamo Battle at San Jacinto

Mexican War Story book must be at least 5 pages long (not counting cover) Book must have a cover with title and author A Synopsis (summary of your story on the back) Story book must have an illustration (drawing or print out that is colored) on each page. The story must be historically accurate and summarize how Texas went from part of Mexico to being its’ own country in a way that a 3rd grader could understand The story must detail the conflict and resolution The following 2 people must be included in the story: President Polk, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna The following 2 events must be included: Mexican-American War, Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
