Symbol: The word ‘symbol’ comes from the Greek word for ‘sign’. Symbols are instructional signs which point us to a greater meaning. Symbols have become such an important part of our lives that our brains immediately fill in the blanks, telling us that the ‘swish’ symbol means that we are supposed to associate the product with Nike, and that the green light means go.

The Symbolic Group Assignment:
Get into a group of 2-4 people (no more than 4) and log onto a computer. As a group you will find a total of 10 symbols or logos on the Internet. The best and easiest way to find them is to do a Google Image search. With each symbol you find, you must copy (right click, then select copy) the image, before pasting it directly into Microsoft Word. For each symbol you must identify what it is used for, what it means, and where it comes from (is it a company logo, a street sign, etc…). Your group assignment will be evaluated out of 20 marks. 10 marks will be for the symbols, 10 marks will be for the identification of the symbols.
