1 Food Allergies Food allergies are the body's abnormal responses to harmless foods; the reactions are caused by the immune system's reaction to some food proteins. Chrissy, Ashleigh, Emmy.

2 Food Allergy Examples

3 What Are The Side Effects?
Rash Red Eyes Itchy Mouth Swollen lips, mouth, tongue, throat Mild symptoms Face Swelling Vomiting/Diarrhoea

4 What Happens In The Body?
Immune System Histamine Allergens Alpha/Beta receptors The immune system, which normally fights infection, overreacts to a substance called allergen. Peanuts and treenuts (cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, brazil nuts etttccc) act as allergens and can cause allergic reactions in some people. When in contact a group of cells in the body called mass cells release a substance called Histamine. Histamine causes tiny blood vessels in the tissue to leak fluid which causes the tissue to swell. When an Epipen is injected it releases a small dose of adrenaline into the blood stream, an epipen reverses the symptoms of anaphylaxis by acting on alpha and beta adrenergic recepetors in the body. Adrenaline stimulates the alpha receptors which are found on the wall of blood vessels, this causes them to narrow to prevent the risk of low blood pressure. Beta receptors are found in the heart and lungs. The adrenaline stimulates these receptors by relaxing them which opens up the airways. Epipen Adrenaline

5 Anaphylactic Wheezing/Difficulty Low Blood Pressure Fast Heart Rate
‘Sense Of Impending Doom’ All Mild Symptoms
