Complete the bellwork and objective onto evidence #8. Due tomorrow: Biome projects Date Activity Evidence # 9/7/16 Population Ecology 8
2
Population depends on…
Population Density: # of organisms per unit area Spatial Distribution: pattern of spacing of a population Population Ranges: whether or not a species can expand
3
Populations are affected by …
Density-independent factors (abiotic) Density-dependent factors (biotic)
4
Three factors affect population growth …
the number of births (birth rate) the number of deaths (death rate) the number of individuals that enter or leave the population (immigration vs. emigration) **A population can grow when its birthrate is greater than its death rate.
5
Two types of population growth …
Exponential Growth: (J-shaped) Logistic Growth: (S-shaped) Growth stops when the population reaches carrying capacity.
6
Population growth depends on limiting factors …
A limiting factor is a factor that causes population growth to decrease. Examples: water, food source, land, etc

Due today: Biome Project! Turn into tray at back of the room! Due tomorrow: Weekly Homework #4 Date Activity Evidence # 9/8/16 Deer/Wolf Graph 9

Today’s Assignment: Read the introduction
Calculate the change in population for deer (HINT: Births-deaths) Graph the populations using TWO DIFFERENT colors and include a key Answer analysis questions 1-3 on your worksheet or in your biology notebook DUE TOMORROW!
