1 Monitoring and recording
National PE Monitoring and recording

2 To understand what monitoring and recording means and why we use it
To develop knowledge on different types of monitoring tools and when to use them within our development plan To understand why we need to log down the information learned and use it effectively when making future goals and targets Learning intentions

3 Talk over with the person next to you and describe what this MONITORING means
Answer: “observe and check the progress or quality of (something) over a period of time; keep under systematic review” Monitoring

4 The monitoring method is important to ensure whether your development plan is having the desired effect on your performance. In other words, is it working; is your training going to plan and is it successful? Why is it important?

5 Why monitor?

6 to provide data on your improvements and comparison to original data
to allow you to judge if a training programme is working and help make changes to provide valuable feedback to improve motivation to check intensity of training to allow targets to be reset or new targets to be made if they have been met to identify new strengths and weaknesses / future development needs Why monitor and record?

7 Different methods of monitoring
Knowledge of results (best out of 10) Coach/peer feedback Training diary – recording thoughts and feelings of how you felt the training session went Heart-rate monitors Retesting any data and comparing to see improvements have been made. Different methods of monitoring

9 When to monitor and record
Gathering data on your performance should be done throughout your training Initial data should be gathered at the start to see what you need to develop ( skills checklist/fitness test/scattergram/questionnaires) , monitoring half way through will help you see if you are on track (knowledge of results, coach peer feedback, training diary) and if any changes to your programme need to be made. Retesting ( skills checklist/fitness test/scattergram/questionnaires) will also help determine if your training has been successful as you can compare your results to see if any improvements have been made. This will help set new future targets and goals. When to monitor and record
