Explanation of Visual Features
Power Point 1 Theme: War I dissected the elements of war and chose to represent different aspects associated with war such as: Injury and separation Devastation, bombs Death War torn countries, hunger Emotions felt amongst a war – loneliness, depression, sadness, and loss of identity and feelings of purpose, feeling worthless and surrounded. Background: I used a picture, which incorporated colours, associated with filth and dirt - it is slightly blurred to represent destruction and confusion. Power Point 2: Theme : Confusion of Emotions + our ability to survive In war, we are so emotionally involved that it is easy to get confused. I used pictures of:: - a clowns face distorted by emotion, with a question mark over his eyes to show that being overwhelmed by emotion results in confusion. Another face with mixed colours and a face hidden to represent the same. - I used a colorful background where the colours merge at points to show emotions can at times be hard to identify - an abseiler may be fearful and uncomfortable at first, but he perseveres and overcomes/ wins over his feelings at the end, -Man under umbrella shows how feeling can feel bigger than ourselves and we can feel overcome and shadowed by them.

Power Point 5: Theme Love + Relationships
Power Point : Evil of Humanity, Yet our inability to see through the veil of our hearts. - I used pictures that represented the awful things we do to each other (rejecting one another, yelling + abusing each other, make people feel upset, hate + kill each other, blame one another), I used a harsh gloomy background to emphasis the nature of the feelings that we can create and inflict upon each other - On the slide with the other half of the quote, I used pictures that shows things humans do to each other that involve the heart such as touch, love, comforting each other, working together, friendship, and the miracle of birth. I also used a background which says “Heart Over mind”, because sometimes as harsh as reality can be, our heart can still choose to be biased by our feelings and see things differently than the reality our brain sees. Power Point 5: Theme Love + Relationships - For this quote I used a background of chaos and destruction, to represent our physical surroundings (like war in the novel.) - I created a photo in which I merged a photo of fire and war, with a picture of two people in love. I used this photo in particular to show that despite what the world can bring amongst all its death, war, fighting and chaos we still find time for love and intimacy, that love comes just as naturally to our human nature as does fighting.
