2. Introduction to NESP
Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is part of the Nigerian-German bilateral cooperation.
NESP is a technical assistance renewable energy and energy efficiency Programme funded by the European Union and the German Government
NESP is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.
NESP I Duration: March, 2013 to October 2017
NESP II Duration: December, 2017 to November, 2020.

3. NESP I ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS
NESP I aimed to improve the framework conditions for the application of, and investments in Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE).
NESP I supported FMPWH in the development of RE & EE policies and action plans.
NESP I supported training Institutions (e.g. NAPTIN) on capacity development & skills acquisition on RE and EE.
NESP I collaborated with FMPWH on the development of the Building Energy Efficiency Guideline (BEEG) in 2016 and the Building Energy Efficiency Code (BEEC) in 2017

5. NESP II ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS
NESP II aims to enable and foster investments in a domestic market for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
NESP II has ongoing awareness creation workshops on the BEEC with building associations, professionals and other relevant stakeholders in the building industry in Nigeria.
NESP II aims to partner with state government on the adoption and implementation of the BEEC.
NESP II aims to implement the BEEC in partnership with private developers in the design and construction of new energy efficient buildings.
NESP II seeks to provide training and capacity building for national energy auditors to execute energy efficiency audits in public buildings.

7. WHAT IS BEEC? WHAT IS BEEC?
The BEEC specifies the minimum energy requirements for the design and construction of buildings in order to achieve energy efficiency throughout the building’s lifespan.

9. BEEC IMPLEMENTATION INCENTIVES
BEEC ENERGY LABEL
An Energy Label is a rating given to new buildings which have implemented the BEEC in their construction.
The aim is to promote energy efficiency by visualising the amount of operational energy savings that a building has achieved by implementing the BEEC.
