Objectives Mindset Attitude Aptitude Altitude Academic Intervention Teacher for Student Services- assist Special education teachers align interventions for students not making progress as well as implement teaching practices that promote student learning. This morning my goal is to provide you with tools and ideas to develop effective teaching plans for the cotaught classrooms. First half- we discuss how our Mindset and its affect on coteaching; I will give you resources and strategies to add to your co-teach toolbox; Second half- you will actually apply some of these strategies as you co-develop a lesson plan– that you will be able to use in the classroom. Attitude refers to your beliefs about yourself, someone else, or in todays case- Co-teaching Your aptitude is your skill level– your natural ability combined with what you have learned as a teacher- how skilled are you in the coteach setting? What knowledge and skills do you bring to the classroom that will benefit the learning environment? Altitude– means to elevate– to continuous rise– Your attitude or beliefs in addition to your natural skills and knowledge sums up how well your co-teaching works and if all students will rise to meet educational standards

Fixed Test your Mindsetonline.com Growing Carol Dweck, Standford University psychologist came up with a simple idea that achievement and success is linked to our MindSet. She compares two types: Fixed and Growing. Take a moment to Talk to the people around you and list some characteristics of people that may have a fixed mindset or a growing mindset- 5 minutes–

4 Mindset As teachers, our own mindsets and beliefs can affect how we teach and cultivate learning in our classrooms. What do we do when we are facing a wall-- Mindsets are just beliefs in our minds– we can change our Minds and our beliefs about failures and set backs. Without the right mindset, you cannot effectively employ your talents. Your attitude can energize or demoralize the people around you. Attitudes are extremely contagious. Ask yourself if your attitude is worth catching. 

5 Co Co teaching is not easy. It’s hard to share students, settings, and instruction. How do we balance instruction? We know theory– but how do we make it work? You try. You fail. You learn. You try again. “ Let’s try this. How do you think that went? “I don’t think that worked for us because….”

What does research say about teaching students with behavioral problems? Engage Students Tasks should be broken down Allow Choices Coteach models lend to making lessons manageable, think tac toes or menus are a great way to motivate independence, engage students to promote thinking and processing of what they are learning.
