An Action Plan For those who Support the Individual

2 Values Has to be person centred (involvement of service user, possible service agreement) Needs a Multi-Disciplinary Approach (agreements for sharing information) Has to be holistic Covering a range of proactive supports Will likely have Reactive Strategies (person specific) ethical Easy to Use (plain format) (pictures, symbols, preferred language)

4 Environmental Awareness
How does the person best interact (staff awareness as to how best to engage with the individual) Activities and length of engagement (routines or schedules, what does the person have to get up for, to what degree is the person engaged? Physical Environment. (noise levels, conducive to learning, living arrangements, compatibility peers! Suitability of, access/restrictions) Tweaking the Environment (marmite)

Review of Historical information Records of Behaviour (past and current) To include… Communication Skills Function of Behaviour Health (mental health and physical, medication)

6 Risk Analysis Process to involve others Identifying Risks
Weighing up consequences Ways at reducing risk Ways of managing Review

7 Teaching Strategies Valued, meaningful & Realistic, Communication
To Promote Independence Coping and Tolerance (to manage feelings/emotions)

8 Clinical Interventions
Medication Behaviourist intervention (psychology, CBT) Health (link to health action plan)

9 Active & Reactive Strategies
Early intervention (redirection, calming, low arousal, clear boundaries and capitulation, active listening) Situation Management (guidelines incorporate Proactive stuff) Physical Interventions (approved and appropriate protocols, DOLS)

10 Recording and Evaluation
Post incident support (debriefing and reflection both those who support and the service user) Use of Physical Interventions (use of prn, PI’s) Recording of information (data collection) Analysis of information collected Use of Analysis to review what’s working or not Agreements for Sharing Information (aspects include confidentiality, who needs to know, why) Link to Resources needs/available
