2. What is a fairytale?
A fairytale is a short story that features fantasy characters such as fairies, elves, giants and mermaids. Fairytales are important because they usually teach us a lesson.
Some famous fairytales you may know include: Cinderella, Beauty & The Beast, Little Mermaid and Aladdin to name a few.

Fairytales usually begin and end with these words.

5. setting
The setting is where the story takes place. For example, Little Red Riding Hood takes place in the woods while Cinderella takes place in a castle.

6. characters
The person/people in the story. Usually there are both good and evil characters. Can you think of some characters you know?

7. Involves royalty
This usually means that the person is a King, Queen, Princess or Prince.

8. magic
Magic is often an element of fairy tales. In Cinderella, there is a fairy godmother who helps Cinderella go to the ball in a fancy dress and carriage. In Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack buys magic seeds that grow into a beanstalk.

9. Problem solution
One of the most important elements in a fairy tale is that they always have a problem that must be solved. For example, in the Princess and the Pea, the prince wants to find a real princess to marry. His mother, the queen, helps him find a real princess by putting a pea in the bed to find out if the princess can feel it.
