2 In 1819, Hans Oersted discovered that magnetism is created by a flowing electrical current.

3 You can use the right-hand rule to determine the direction of the magnetic field or current flow.

4 Magnetism is created by moving charges.
The strength of the field near the wire depends on: Current-greater current, stronger magnetic field Distance – the farther away from the wire the weaker the field

5 Electric current can create magnetism, so it makes sense that magnetism can generate electric current Induction:

6 Electric Motor: Converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
Electrical motors contain: Permanent magnets Solenoids Current source
