1 Response to Environment

2 One Goal The #1 goal for an animal is to survive
An animal must be able to find food and shelter in it’s habitat An animal must also be able to hide from its predators Many animals will go to the extreme to ensure their survival, such as wolves or coyotes that bite their leg off in attempt to survive While some animals hide from its predators, others can fight off their predators or even deter their predators

3 The Five Senses Sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch
Animals use these senses in different ways than humans do Animals use these senses to find food, mates, etc Other animals’ senses are much stronger than humans, such as a dogs sense of smell or a bird’s eyes or a bat’s hearing

4 Adapt!! An animal must be able to their behavior based on past experiences This process of adaptation is calling learning After learning to adapt after thousands of years, it enters genetic code and becomes genetic memory/ instinct Instinct is the ability for an animal to do complex actions without learning how to preform those complex actions

5 Ways to Adapt

6 Learning Learning is the process of modifying behavior based on experiences in the past If an animal has a bad experience with a certain fruit, it will know not to eat it again in the future

7 Movement and Migration
Migration a movement from one region to another during a particular season An animal’s habitat may not be tolerable in the winter, so it must to a new area until the spring Most notable examples of migration are birds, but many other animals such as lemmings also migrate

8 Finding Food Some predators develop hunting characteristics to help them catch food For example, camouflage allows them to blend in the environment and hide from their prey until they attack by surprise other animals are herbivores and eat only plants Carnivores eat only meat omnivores eat both

9 Defense The main trick to surviving is to not be eaten or killed
Some animals develop a bad taste or a horrid smell to seem unappealing to predators
