How are animal adaptations classified?

4. What is an adaptation
Adaptation – a physical trait that helps in the survival of the species
A slow process that occurs over time so that a species survives in its environment
Ex: armor, flight, speed, sharp teeth, insulation

5. Types of adaptations
Armor – protects against other predator and the environment
Flight – able to move above the ground to stay away from predator or catch prey
Speed – used to take down prey or escape predators

Radiation – ability to let off heat during hot times
Webbed feet – allows animals to walk and have an advantage while swimming
Sharp teeth– used for hunting and killing prey

Warning Coloration - bright colors possessed by an animal that serve as a warning to potential predators that it is toxic or distasteful

Sharp claws– used to attack and take down prey, dig for food or shelter, climbing, ward off predators
