10 Standard 24pt Arial Title Header
Use a large font size for legibility Maintain adequate open space around content Mediate complexity: spread content over multiple slides Use words with pictures for better audience retention Expanded detail for these points in speaker notes Try to use larger size text where possible for improved legibility. You can get away with smaller 12pt to 14pt text for small on-screen, small room or as shared document presentations. Larger rooms and audiences will benefit from use of a larger font size ie: 18 to 20 pt minimum Thinking about using larger text and maintaining visual space can help you focus on simplifying your message. Maintain adequate open space around content to reduce the cognitive load on your viewers. This will help them decode and enable faster understanding of content. Also can enhance your presentation flow Instead of using one complex slide, consider splitting and spreading content over a sequence of multiple slides [or builds] to control pacing and improve audience retention of your message points Research shows that using words with pictures increases audience retention. Highest retention rates are achieved with combination of text + pictures + sound. Do not try to provide all details in a bullet point. Instead, place expanded bullet point details in speaker notes and not on the slide Your message will be stronger if the audience is paying attention to what you are saying and not focused on reading and decoding a text heavy slide Do not feel obligated to use complete sentences; phrases are fine as talking points. Do not us multiple sentences in bullets Keep it simple. Aim for 5 to 10 word phrases in as few bullets as possible Avoid unnecessary jargon.
