Ask what matters. Listen to what matters. Do what matters.
WHAT MATTERS TO YOU? Ask what matters. Listen to what matters. Do what matters.

What Is It? Health care providers across BC are invited to add this one simple question to every patient interaction, each and every day, in order to improve care. That question is, “What matters to you?”

Where Did It All Begin? “What Matters to You?” Day started in Norway in 2014, with the simple goal of encouraging meaningful conversations between patients, caregivers, and families, and their health care providers.

Where Did It All Begin? From Norway it expanded to Scotland, Brazil and beyond! More than 30 countries participated in 2017, including BC! Participation in BC is supported through a partnership between the Patient Voices Network (PVN), the Council and provincial partners.

Aim “Encouraging and supporting more meaningful conversations between people who provide health and social care and people, families and carers who receive health and social care.” Colleen

Why Is It Important? Providing patient-centred care is important because it results in better outcomes for patients and greater satisfaction with care. Asking “What Matters to You?” supports this by putting the patient voice at the centre of care, by focusing on what matters to them.
