2. After reading the introduction, discuss the following as a class:
What is an indicator?
What are some everyday examples of indicators?
This class discussion should take 5-10 minutes.

Work with your table to complete steps 1-8. Review the Indicator Key provided in the Procedure.
Complete step 9 with your table.Complete the data table which lists each region and record the amount of each indicator and place in your notebook. Do not calculate the amounts for the columns with asterisks, yet.

Introduce the use of science notebooks in step 10. More information on how to do this can be found in your Teacher Resources.

4. Complete step 11 and record in your data table
After discussing with your group, answer bulleted questions in #12 in your notebook.
Be sure you understand the phrase per capita, used in steps 11 and 12.
