Course Objectives Literary Analysis
The student: knows and understands the literature in depth responds insightfully to the main implications as well as the subtleties of the literature makes meaningful and relevant connections between works appreciates the cultural relevance of literature Argumentative and Critical Technique crafts focused, well-developed, and persuasive arguments organizes arguments purposefully shows careful consideration of ideas thinks independently makes highly relevant, precise, and effective references to the literature addresses literary techniques effectively and purposefully

Course Objectives Writing and Communication The student:
constructs well-developed and effective paragraphs commits no significant lapses in grammar, spelling, or sentence construction uses a wide vocabulary with precision conveys a varied, appropriate idiom and style displays verbal skills which will enable arguments to be: persuasively spoken coherently delivered logically structured

Dick The Road by Cormac McCarthy Fourth Work TBD (HL)

What You Will Need: Assigned literature book Composition Notebook
Binder Loose-leaf notebook paper Pen (blue or black ink) and pencil Red Pen (for correction and feedback) Highlighters, colored pencils Nerd pens are permissible Small stapler (recommended) Computer disk or portable USB drive I recommend that my students look into a free GoogleDocs/Dropbox account

Grades The following assessments are used to generate grades:
formal critical essays and commentaries, literary forums, other forms of writing (timelines, comparative charts, etc.) oral presentation (both individual and group) outside reading and research dialectical journals, poetic close readings reading quizzes and text-based tests Report cards - every nine weeks Class Grades will be posted and updated constantly via Focus
