Building upon the Freshman year Continue to explore interests and get involved in extracurricular activities Continue to challenge yourself in areas that you are strong in and have an interest in, prepare for rigorous classes in 11th grade Learn about what colleges are looking for, learn about different types of colleges and universities, learn about college admissions testing and its role in college admissions

Getting to know your options
The better you know yourself, the easier it is to make the right choices about your future. It is never too soon to start planning for your future: What do I like/dislike? (Interests) How do I describe myself? (Personality) What am I good at? (Skills) What am I truly passionate about? (Values) Naviance Personality Assessment Create and continue a resume in Naviance (reflect each semester)

Post-Secondary Options
4-year college or university (Bachelor degree) Public: UC or CSU Private: over 70 in California Out of state public or private: over 2,000 2-year college (Associate degree, career training or transfer) Career technical education (varying degrees and certificates) Military Work Gap year (concrete plan with a destination in mind for 2nd year, usually)

College Admissions Testing
Took the PSAT as a Sophomore Will take again as a Junior Take a practice SAT/ACT again in Junior year Decide which exam to take in the Junior Year - SAT or ACT Take official exams Junior - Senior year Create a consistent testing plan (3-5 months before official test date) Students typically take the SAT or ACT 2 - no more than 3 times, both exams accepted, depending on your testing abilities you may start earlier or take your time. Best prep NOW as a Sophomore? Do well in your classes! And read! SAT Subject Exams

Naviance Family Connection (more on this later) Take interest and personality inventories (Naviance) Take a class that interests you Career Tech Ed, Pathways Volunteer in a field you find interesting Find an internship or a job in a career you want to learn more about (great way to spend your summer!) Reflect on your extracurricular commitments Get to know different types of colleges

Remember… Quality over quantity Take LEADERSHIP roles Plan summer activities wisely- do SOMETHING You don’t have to cure cancer to be admitted to college! (But it definitely doesn’t hurt.) Start your resume now

= click on College Center and Naviance Username: 5 digit ID# Password: student Do What You Are Click on the “About Me” tab, click on “Do What You Are” and begin You have 15 minutes After the survey click on “View Full Report” and explore!
